Chaplain’s Message:
My Brothers in Christ
October is Respect Life Month the United States. This annual tradition is now in its fortieth year. This month Catholics across the nation will join together to witness to the basic equality and value of every human being, whether in the womb or in the world. Here at St. Theresa this month we join together to pray the Rosary after every Mass asking our Blessed Mother to wrap her mantle around all women pregnant or contemplating having a child. In the many liturgies here we give thanks to God for the gift of human life, and pray for his guidance and blessings on our efforts to defend the most vulnerable members of the human family.
As Catholics we must also follow the direction of the American Catholic Bishops when they call us to voice our opposition to the injustice and cruelty of abortion on behalf of those victims whose voices have been silenced. At the same time, we will remind the living victims of abortion—the mothers and fathers who grieve the loss of an irreplaceable child—that God’s mercy is greater than any human sin, and that healing and peace can be theirs through the sacrament of reconciliation and the Church’s Project Rachel Ministry.
Remember that our Lord has told us that he came so all could have life. Jesus refers both to our hope of eternal life and our life in this world where we serve as his disciples bring the hope of life to all persons. By following Jesus, our lives are fulfilled and filled with joy and peace.
So how can we stand sadly silent when our culture and sometimes our government promote values that are indifferent to the true dignity and good of every life? We watch silently as more and more attempts are made to remove the very mentioning of God, the source of all life, from public life. Contraceptives are promoted even to young teens as though they were essential to women’s well-being, and abortion defended as the “necessary” back-up plan when contraceptives fail. Contraceptives are being issued as though they were a prescriptive treatment for a disease. No! Pregnancy is not a disease.
Please, as brother Knights, let us focus our prayer to a new awakening among the people, a new awakening among legislators, a new awakening of the world. The human race needs to embrace its own origin, namely life from our loving God. We must celebrate our own humanness even with all our flaws and weakness. We must embrace the humanity of our future. The selfishness of this world must stop and be replaced with a new awareness of the other. Let us pray for our Lord to soften the hearts of the many. Let us pray that the words of Jesus resound in our hearts as we proclaim to the world that Jesus our Lord and Savior “came so that all might have life and have it to the full. (John 10:10).
Yours in Christ
Fr. Mick

SPECIAL MEETING:
As you may have noticed, the Council has not had a regular Business Meeting since August. We cannot have a regular meeting until the Council membership approves an Amendment to our Council By-Laws changing both our Officer and Regular meeting night. Enclosed is a Resolution, read for the first time at the Special Meeting on October 11th, which amends the Council By-Laws and changes the meeting night from Monday to Tuesday. During the Special Meeting on Tuesday, October 25th, we will read the Resolution for the second time, vote on it, and then close the Special Meeting. By-Law Amendments require approval of two-thirds of the members present and voting at this meeting.
TRANSFERS AND RELOCATIONS:
Deacon Charles Comito, who moved to Florida and has transferred to Lake Placid, FL Council# 07245.
Also an email from Deacon Bob Kratchman, It is a bitter sweet experience, bitter in that we’ve made many wonderful friends and neighbors, sweet in that we’ll be close to our two daughters who want to look over their ageing parents. This spring we had some health issues that caused them some strife and worry, mostly because they were so far away. After that event they pestered us until we agreed to move close to them. They are in Mooresville, North Carolina. We’ll be leaving here on November 8th next. Of course the house here isn’t sold, we don’t expect it to sell under the present conditions. We understand that there are 15 or more other houses for sale here in Sea Oaks. Maybe we’ll rent it. It’s in God’s hands, what better place for it to be????? Thank you and all the St. Theresa’s Knights for their acceptance of me, I know my participation has been wanting, that I apologize for, but the year has been a hectic one for us. God bless and keep you, one and all.
Bob Kratchman (1st degree Knight)
PGK Comments:
Past Grand Knight Jeff Kleinow emailed the following message to thosw members with email. For all of us, including those without email, I include it here:
Brothers,
I would like to thank everyone that attended the PGK dinner Friday. It was a great event & the music was great.
I wish my good friend Ed Costa & his wife Marge could have come. The person that has been robbing homes in the West Tuckerton section was caught breaking into his home trying to steal jewelry & other things from his home, how upsetting that must have been for them.
Fraternally yours,
Jeff Kleinow PGK
Identification:
We have a need to put a more public face on our Council. This will help us with identification and Council growth. Whenever you are participating in any parish activity - attending a meeting of any of the parish ministries, assisting at any parish function - if possible please wear Knights of Columbus identification (either a Council shirt or Council name tag). This will help put a public face on the Council and allow parishioners to know who we are and what we do.
Disability Membership:
The Supreme Council has arranged for disabled members, whether permanent or temporary, to be exempt from Council dues and per capita charges for the duration of the disability. If you are currently collecting either temporary or permanent total disability payments from the Veterans’ Administration, Social Security or Workmen’s Compensation, please notify the Financial Secretary, Jay Werling. He will tell you what documentation you need to provide so our Council can file this claim on your behalf.
Annual Dues Notices:
Our Council collects dues for the Fraternal Year (July through June). Therefore, annual dues notices were mailed in June. Please remit payment to the Financial Secretary, using the envelope provided with the dues notice. You may also bring your dues payment to the Council Meeting. Your Membership Card is only good for a three month grace period following the date shown. After this grace period, your Membership Card is no longer valid and you will not be admitted to a Council meeting until your dues are current.
The Financial Secretary has sent out Second Notices this month as a reminder for those members who have not remitted their dues.
Membership Cards:
Two comments are necessary about Membership cards.
First, the Supreme Council has determined that some former members are misusing the Honorary Life Membership cards issued to them. Therefore, the Supreme Council has directed that all Councils issue annual Membership cards to all Honorary Life Members on the Council Membership rolls.
Second, Membership cards for all members, Honorary Life, Disabled and those current in dues, will be available at the October Council Meeting. Please see the Financial Secretary for your Membership Card.
You may also pay your dues to the Financial Secretary on October 25th.
Fund Raisers:
Currently Three fund raisers are under way:
46” FLAT SCREEN LCD TV RAFFLE TICKET SALE:
You will soon be receiving raffle tickets for a Sony Bravia 46” Flat Screen LCD TV. This is a great deal and the drawing will be January 30 just before the Super Bowl. The State of New Jersey requires that we track all the tickets that we produce. If you can’t sell the tickets please return them to Andy Kacvinski. There will be a return address envelope when you receive the tickets. The proceeds of this ticket sale will help fund our Council Scholarship and Charity fund.
We will be selling tickets after all Masses starting with the 4:00 PM Mass on Saturday, 22, 2011. We need help at all Masses every weekend until the drawing in January 2012. Please contact our Chairman, Andy Kacvinski at 609-294-3866 and schedule yourself to sell tickets. THANKS.
NAME BADGES:
The name badges have been ordered; the price is $11.00 for regular members and $12.00 for Fourth Degree members. See Jay Werling at the meeting for your badge.
New orders for name badges will be taken at all meetings. See Jay for this as well.
SHIRTS:
Brother Earl Lind is selling Council T-Shirts. The price is $10.00 a shirt.
Additionally our Council is considering other fund raisers throughout the upcoming Fraternal Year. These include a Christmas Card sale; Spaghetti and/or Corned Beef dinners and additional bus trips to Atlantic City. For any and all of these fund raisers to be successful, we will need assistance from you, our Brother Members. For further information, attend our Council Meetings, read these monthly Knight Letters and watch the weekly Parish Bulletin.
