Chaplain’s Message:
My Dear Brothers on Christ
The Roman Missal, Third Edition, the ritual text containing prayers and instructions for the celebration of the Mass, is now being prepared for publication. The Roman Missal will be implemented in the United States of America on the First Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011.
Pope John Paul II announced a revised version of the Missale Romanum during the Jubilee Year 2000. Among other things, the revised edition of the Missale Romanum contains prayers for the observances of recently canonized saints, additional prefaces for the Eucharistic Prayers, additional Votive Masses and Masses and Prayers for Various Needs and Occasions, and some updated and revised rubrics (instructions) for the celebration of the Mass. The English translation of the Roman Missal will also include updated translations of existing prayers, including some of the well-known responses and acclamations of the people.
The entire Church in the United States has been blessed with this opportunity to deepen its understanding of the Sacred Liturgy, and to appreciate its meaning and importance in our lives. The Parish of St. Theresa is now planning the process for the implementation, with a goal toward executing that plan in the coming months. To that end I intend to make certain the parish’s leadership and the parish community be catechized to receive the new translation. Musicians and parishioners alike should soon be learning the various new and revised musical settings of the Order of Mass very soon.
The entire Church in the United States has been blessed with this opportunity to deepen its understanding of the Sacred Liturgy, and to appreciate its meaning and importance in our lives.
The United States Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB) has prepared many reliable resources for all of us to engage in the formation process. As time draws closer for the implementation, more and more information will be made available through the Bulletin, Newsletters and of course in the sermons at Mass. Through these various ways I pray that the Priests and the faithful alike will become more and more familiar with the change in translation as well as the cadence of the various prayers.
This is a very historic moment in our Church I hope that everyone, but especially the Knights of Columbus will seize the opportunity given to us for all Catholics in the United States to deepen, nurture, and celebrate our faith through the renewal of our worship and the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Mick Lambeth
Pastor of the Parish of St. Theresa
Chaplain to Council #14615

Identification:
We have a need to put a more public face on our Council. This will help us with identification and Council growth. Whenever you are participating in any parish activity - attending a meeting of any of the parish ministries, assisting at any parish function - if possible please wear Knights of Columbus identification (either a Council shirt or Council name tag). This will help put a public face on the Council and allow parishioners to know who we are and what we do.
Installation of Council Officers:
This event is open to all Members and their families. Please plan on attending with your families.
The installation of Council Officers is scheduled as follows:
DATE: Monday, July 25, 2011
TIME: 7:30 PM
PLACE: St. Theresa’s Church
DRESS: Jacket and Tie for the members and appropriate attire for the women.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: All Officers are to meet in the Gathering Space at 7:00 PM to rehearse for the Installation.
Our Chaplain will celebrate Mass for the Council and our District Deputy will install all the Council Officers for the term July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. Afterwards, we will serve light refreshments in the Faith Formation Center.
Disability Membership:
The Supreme Council has arranged for disabled members, whether permanent or temporary, to be exempt from Council dues and per capita charges for the duration of the disability. If you are currently collecting either temporary or permanent total disability payments from the Veterans’ Administration, Social Security or Workmen’s Compensation, please notify the Financial Secretary, Jay Werling. He will tell you what documentation you need to provide so our Council can file this claim on your behalf.
Annual Dues Notices:
Our Council collects dues for the Fraternal Year (July through June). Therefore, annual dues notices were mailed last month. Please remit payment to the Financial Secretary, using the envelope provided with the dues notice. You may also bring your dues payment to the Installation of Officers.
Membership Cards:
Two comments are necessary about Membership cards.
First, the Supreme Council has determined that some former members are misusing the Honorary Life Membership cards issued to them. Therefore, the Supreme Council has directed that all Councils issue annual Membership cards to all Honorary Life Members on the Council Membership rolls.
Second, Membership cards for all members, Honorary Life, Disabled and those current in dues, will be available at the Installation of Council Officers on Monday evening July 25th. Please see the Financial Secretary for your Membership Card.
You may also pay your dues to the Financial Secretary on July 25th.
New Officers:
At the May Council meeting, the following brothers were elected to serve as the Officers of our Council for the period July 1, 2011 through June 20, 2012.
Congratulations to our newly elected Officers and much success in the coming year.
Annual Membership Drive:
Our Council held its Annual Membership Drive at all Masses in June. As a result of this drive, we received fourteen applications for membership, including new members, transfers and readmissions, and are currently following up on five information queries that we received.
Ocean County Chapter:
St. Theresa Council, our Council, will host the monthly meeting of the Ocean County Chapter here in our Faith Formation Center on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 8:00 PM. Please plan on attending this meeting and showing our support for the Ocean County Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. This meeting is limited to Third Degree members only and the dress is jacket and tie.
Fourth Degree Exemplification:
The Annual Fourth Degree Exemplification is scheduled for weekend of November 5-6, 2011 at the Sheraton in Eatontown. Currently, all Third Degree members of our Council are eligible to take the Fourth Degree. The end of this newsletter provides more information as well as the point of contact.
Fund Raisers:
Currently three fund raisers are under way:
BUS TRIP TO ATLANTIC CITY:
The Bus Trip to Atlantic City (Showboat Casino) on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 was very successful. Those who rode with us had a good time. Thanks to Brothers Francis Murphy and William Murphy, this trip generated a net profit over $600.00.
The next bus trip, this time to the Hilton, is scheduled for Tuesday, August 16, 2011 and, assuming good weather, this is the day of the rehearsal for the Atlantic City Air Show – Thunder Over The Boardwalk. Point of contact for this trip is Brother Jack Murray at 609-296-1140.
NAME BADGES:
The name badges have been ordered; the price is $11.00 for regular members and $12.00 for Fourth Degree members. See Jay Werling at the meeting for your badge.
New orders for name badges will be taken at all meetings. See Jay for this as well.
SHIRTS:
Brother Earl Lind is selling Council T-Shirts. The price is $10.00 a shirt.
Fr. Mick’s Installation
Fr. Mick will be installed as Pastor of St. Theresa’s Parish at the 4:00 PM Mass on Saturday August 27th. As of the June Council Meeting, we have not been formally approached about our participation in the Installation and the festivities surrounding this event. We recognize that our eventual involvement will cost us both time and money. The Laws and Rules of the Order, as issued by the Supreme Council, limit the maximum amount a Council may spend, at any one meeting, on an event to $500.00. Amounts over that amount require that a resolution be submitted at one meeting and approved at a subsequent Business Meeting. At the June Business Meeting a resolution was submitted to allocate a maximum of $2,000.00 for our involvement in the Installation. Since we do not have a business meeting in July, we will vote final approval of this resolution at our August Business Meeting (August 22nd).
Past Grand Knights’ Dinner:
This year, our Past Grand Knights’ Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2011. Keep this date available on your calendar. More information in future issues of this Knight Letter.
