Chaplain’s Message:
My Brothers
As we begin this New Year, I am happy to report the new translation of the Sacred Liturgy is being implemented without difficulty here at the Parish of St. Theresa. 2011 has brought a great deal of planning and preparation by the Church for this implementation of the new translation in all English speaking Churches around the world.
The Church tells us the Sacred Liturgy is the source and summit of our faith and by rights holds a specific and important place in our lives as Roman Catholics. This has been so beautifully laid down for us in Sacrosanctum Concilium (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy) which was solemnly promulgated by His Holiness Pope Paul VI on December 4, 1963.
In this beautiful document, Pope Paul VI expresses the beauty, dignity and necessity of the full and active participation of each person present at the Sacred Liturgy. “Mother Church earnestly desires that all the faithful should be led to that fully conscious and active participation in liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy. Such participation by the Christian people as "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a redeemed people (1 Pet. 2:9; cf. 2:4-5), is their right and duty by reason of their baptism”.
The promotion of the Sacred Liturgy, this full and active participation by all the people, is the aim I, as pastor, must consider before all else; “for it is the primary and indispensable source from which the faithful are to derive the true Christian spirit.” This is the reason I have dedicated this Liturgical Year here at the Parish of St. Theresa as the year of the Sacred Liturgy. In this year I have and will continue to place a special emphasis on the promotion of the liturgical instruction of the faithful, the active participation in the liturgy both internally and externally and help each member of the parish understand how to bring the Liturgy into every aspect of their lives as vital disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. My journey toward this goal continues to be spiritually uplifting and fulfilling as one of my chief duties of a faithful dispenser of the mysteries of God.
However this Year of the Sacred Liturgy cannot and must not be celebrated by myself alone. The Sacred Liturgy is not a private function. It is the celebration of the Church, which is the "sacrament of unity," namely, the holy people united and ordered under their bishops. The Sacred Liturgy pertains to the whole body of the Church. Thus I am asking each of you, as Knights of Columbus, to bring this goal to life in your day to day experience. Consider assisting at daily and weekend mass as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Altar Server, Choir Member, or Usher. Become active in our Consolation Apostolate ministering to those who have just lost a love one. Join our Altar Rosary Group, Pro Life Group, Hospitality Ministry or any one of the ministries which center themselves on the Sacred Liturgy. Perhaps you might attend one of our scripture or prayer groups. And of course you can pray.
Each of has a place at the Table of the Lord. Let’s not let our seat sit empty as the Lord waits for us to respond. Should you have any questions please contact me after mass, at the Parish Center or by my email. Please join in this year of the Sacred Liturgy in whatever way the Lord may call you. And always know that you are in my prayers daily.

Identification: We have a need to put a more public face on our Council. This will help us with identification and Council growth. Whenever you are participating in any parish activity - attending a meeting of any of the parish ministries, assisting at any parish function - if possible please wear Knights of Columbus identification (either a Council shirt or Council name tag). This will help put a public face on the Council and allow parishioners to know who we are and what we do.
First Degree Team: As the Council moves forward, we are constantly looking for Brother Knights to assist on our First Degree Team. We have five major speaking parts – Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Chancellor, Financial Secretary and Warden. We need understudies for all these parts. If you are interested in helping, please contact Joe Lyons, our Team Captain ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).
Disability Membership: The Supreme Council has arranged for disabled members, whether permanent or temporary, to be exempt from Council dues and per capita charges for the duration of the disability. If you are currently collecting either temporary or permanent total disability payments from the Veterans’ Administration, Social Security or Workmen’s Compensation, please notify the Financial Secretary, Jay Werling. He will tell you what documentation you need to provide so our Council can file this claim on your behalf.
Membership Cards: Two comments are necessary about Membership cards.
First, the Supreme Council has determined that some former members are misusing the Honorary Life Membership cards issued to them. Therefore, the Supreme Council has directed that all Councils issue annual Membership cards to all Honorary Life Members on the Council Membership rolls.
Second, Membership cards for all members, Honorary Life, Disabled and those current in dues, will be available at the November Council Meeting. Please see the Financial Secretary for your Membership Card. Web Site: The Council Web Site – www.kofc14615.org – is back online and available to review.
Food Pantry: The Little Egg Harbor Food Pantry is making great progress and is run by one of our Brother Knights. Brother Leo Rossetti runs this food pantry and some of our Brother Knights volunteer on a daily basis. This food pantry receives and distributes to the needy in excess of 2,000 pounds of food a month and our Brothers approximately donate at least one hundred hours a month. If you are interested in helping out the food shelter contact Leo Rossetti at (609) 458-9989. December was a great success donating to 563 families in the area. Great Job Leo and Brother Knights!!
Fund Raisers: 46” FLAT SCREEN LCD TV RAFFLE TICKET SALE: We are currently raffling tickets for a Sony Bravia 46” Flat Screen LCD TV. This is a great deal and the drawing will be January 30, 2012 at 8:30 pm just before the Super Bowl. The proceeds of this ticket sale will help fund our Council Scholarship and Charity fund. We will be selling tickets after all Masses every weekend until the drawing on January 30. Please contact our Chairman, Andy Kacvinski at 609-294-3866 and schedule yourself to sell tickets. If you are unable to sell the tickets that Andy has issued you please return them to the Council so we can resell them.
St. Theresa’s Council 14615, would like to thank Brother Andy Kacvinski for all the hard work and time he has put into this raffle. He has been donating his time and also selling tickets at every Mass for the past two to three months. Great Job Andy!!

Additionally our Council is considering other fund raisers throughout the upcoming Fraternal Year. These include a Spaghetti and/or Corned Beef dinners and additional bus trips to Atlantic City. For any and all of these fund raisers to be successful, we will need assistance from you, our Brother Members. For further information, attend our Council Meetings, read these monthly Knight Letters and watch the weekly Parish Bulletin.
Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity: Each year, our Council must submit its Annual Survey of Fraternity Activity by January 31 for the prior year. This is one of six documents which we must submit on time to be eligible for the Star Council Award. This document summarizes and consolidates the community and fraternal service our Council and its members performed during the year 2011; however, only for the period during 2011 that you have been a member of the Knights. These service areas include visits to the Sick and Bereaved; Blood Donations; service for Sick and Disabled Members and their Families; hours of Community Service for Church Activities (including the Parish Picnic and Duck and Decoy Show), Youth Activities, Habitat for Humanity, Community Activities (including the Food Collection, Sort, Transportation and Distribution), and Other Miscellaneous Activities.
