Chaplain’s Message:
Dear Brothers in Christ,
As fall fills the air we turn to the closing of another Liturgical Year. The Holy Season of Advent begins this year the weekend of November 26th and 27th. As we begin Advent we also begin the new revisions of the Roman Missal which impacts the words, the prayers, and the music we will use at the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. Pope John Paul II announced a revised version of the Missale Romanum during the Jubilee Year 2000. Among other things, the revised edition of the Missale Romanum contains prayers for the observances of recently canonized saints, additional prefaces for the Eucharistic Prayers, additional Votive Masses and Masses and Prayers for Various Needs and Occasions, and some updated and revised rubrics (instructions) for the celebration of the Mass. The English translation of the Roman Missal will also include updated translations of existing prayers, including some of the well-known responses and acclamations of the people. The entire Church in the United States has been blessed with this opportunity to deepen its understanding of the Sacred Liturgy, and to appreciate its meaning and importance in our lives. The Liturgical ministers of the Parish of St. Theresa have been planning for the implementation of the new translation for the past six months. Our goal has been to make this implementation as seamless as possible. This is an opportunity for all Catholics to deepen, nurture, and celebrate our faith through the renewal of our worship and the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. As Knights of Columbus we are called to be leaders in our parishes, showing the support of the Church and the pastor in the work of the local church. I call upon all members of our council to open our hearts to the Spirit of the implementation of the revised Missal. The Parish will be returning to the use of Missals in the main worship space and the chapel. We will have new song books which include the new translations and setting for many old and new hymns. The Priests and Deacons will use the revised Sacramentary with all the new prayers at all the Masses. It is an exciting time in the Church. As such I am marking the liturgical year of 2012 – 2013 as the year of the Sacred Liturgy. During this year we will put a special emphasis on how and why we celebrate the Sacred Liturgy. We will break down the various parts of the Mass as we attempt to explain the why and how we celebrate. We hope that through our efforts we can reach out to those Catholics who for one reason or another have fallen away from the church and welcome them back with a fresh and renewed appreciation of the Celebration of Christ’s Sacrifice for us all, which we celebrate in the Sacred Liturgy. This is a great time to invite others and to renew and rededicate ourselves to the Sacred Liturgy which Christ has given to us all. Yours in Christ Fr. Mick Chaplain

Exemplification of the Fourth Degree: On Sunday, November 6, 2011, two of our Brothers, Joe Palandro and Ryan Albertson, took their Fourth Degree at the Sheraton in Eatontown. Congratulations to both of you.
Upcoming Degrees: We have two upcoming Degrees. A Second Degree, in Toms River, on November 17, 2011 and a First Degree, in Forked River, on December 6, 2011. Both Degrees will be held at another Council. As we do not allow Candidates to drive themselves to a Degree, we need you, our Members, to assist with this transportation of Candidates. On both dates, we need you to be at the Faith Formation Center by 6:30 PM, in jacket and tie, ready to drive to the Councils. Please contact Joe Lutz, our Chancellor, if you are willing to drive (609-296-2001).
Since the First Degree does not coincide with our Council Meeting, if you have a Candidate for the First Degree, please ensure that his Application for Membership has been read and approved, no later than our November Council meeting. Candidates for both the First and Second Degree will be contacted directly by our Chancellor, Joe Lutz, with more details about their pending Degree. Candidates need to respond directly to him.
Identification: We have a need to put a more public face on our Council. This will help us with identification and Council growth. Whenever you are participating in any parish activity - attending a meeting of any of the parish ministries, assisting at any parish function - if possible please wear Knights of Columbus identification (either a Council shirt or Council name tag). This will help put a public face on the Council and allow parishioners to know who we are and what we do.
Disability Membership: The Supreme Council has arranged for disabled members, whether permanent or temporary, to be exempt from Council dues and per capita charges for the duration of the disability. If you are currently collecting either temporary or permanent total disability payments from the Veterans’ Administration, Social Security or Workmen’s Compensation, please notify the Financial Secretary, Jay Werling. He will tell you what documentation you need to provide so our Council can file this claim on your behalf.
Annual Dues Notices: Our Council collects dues for the Fraternal Year (July through June). Therefore, annual dues notices were mailed in June. Please remit payment to the Financial Secretary, using the envelope provided with the dues notice. You may also bring your dues payment to the Council Meeting. Your Membership Card is only good for a three month grace period following the date shown. After this grace period, your Membership Card is no longer valid and you will not be admitted to a Council meeting until your dues are current.
The Financial Secretary has sent out Second Notices as a reminder for those members who have not remitted their dues.
Web Site: The Council Web Site – www.kofc14615.org – is back online and available to review. Membership Cards: Two comments are necessary about Membership cards.
First, the Supreme Council has determined that some former members are misusing the Honorary Life Membership cards issued to them. Therefore, the Supreme Council has directed that all Councils issue annual Membership cards to all Honorary Life Members on the Council Membership rolls.
Second, Membership cards for all members, Honorary Life, Disabled and those current in dues, will be available at the November Council Meeting. Please see the Financial Secretary for your Membership Card.
You may also pay your dues to the Financial Secretary after any meeting.

ATTENTION VETERANS:
As you may be aware, you are entitled to Military Honors at your funeral. The New Jersey National Guard, both Army and Air, has the responsibility for providing these Honors. To ensure that the appropriate personnel are notified in a timely manner, please ask your next of kin to have your Funeral Director contact the New Jersey National Guard Honor Guard Program office at 609-530-7090. This number is monitored 24 hours a day seven days a week. Also, your next of kin (NOK) will be asked to provide a copy of your DD-214 or NGB Form 22, showing your Service Record and validating your veteran status. If you do not have your DD-214 or NGB Form 22, you may acquire one from the National Personnel Records Center, Military Personnel Records, 9700 Page Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63132-5100. Request forms are available from the Honor Guard Program office. Once filled in and returned to the office, the Honor Guard Program, State Coordinator, will process the form at the family’s or NOK’s request.
If you are a military retiree, your Funeral Director should contact the Casualty Assistance Office for your Branch of Service. Once again, your next of kin will need to provide a copy of your DD-214 to the Funeral Director. If you do not have your DD-214, you may acquire one from the National Personnel Records Center, Military Personnel Records, 9700 Page Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63132-5100 or with assistance of the New Jersey National Guard Honor Guard Program or the Funeral Director.
Additionally, if the veteran is currently or had received a Property Tax reduction in their local municipality, your NOK can request a copy of the Military Service documents from the Property Tax Office. If the Veteran was a member of a local VFW or American Legion Post or VVA Chapter, they also should have on file a copy of the required documents to validate the Military Service Record.
Annual Survey of Fraternal Activity: Each year, our Council must submit its Annual Survey of Fraternity Activity by January 31 for the prior year. This is one of six documents which we must submit on time to be eligible for the Star Council Award. This document summarizes and consolidates the community and fraternal service our Council and its members performed during the year 2011; however, only for the period during 2011 that you have been a member of the Knights. These service areas include visits to the Sick and Bereaved; Blood Donations; service for Sick and Disabled Members and their Families; hours of Community Service for Church Activities (including the Parish Picnic and Duck and Decoy Show), Youth Activities, Habitat for Humanity, Community Activities (including the Food Collection, Sort, Transportation and Distribution), and Other Miscellaneous Activities.
